Biography

Michael is the Managing Director of National Standard Finance Africa (NSFA), an affiliate of National Standard Finance, LLC (www.nationalstandardfinance.com) that he co-founded in 2014. Michael is a deal maker with 22 years financial services experience and is involved in the origination and structuring of sovereign, sub-sovereign and private sector project finance, infrastructure finance, acquisition finance & real estate development finance deals across Africa with a strong focus on financial services, renewable energy, mining, agriculture, affordable housing, social housing and other sustainable developmental finance and impact investing initiatives to improve the quality of lives of people. Insurance based Credit Enhancement structures to facilitate capital raising privately and in the debt capital markets are an integral part of the solutions. Michael has strong relationships across the banking and investor communities in Africa, US and UK being part of the National Standard Group. He is an investment and banking professional who has worked in various senior roles in financial services within the UK, South Africa and the rest of Africa for 16 years prior to forming NSFA initially as a division of National Standard Finance, LLC  in 2014, and later as a stand alone company in 2017.

Michael worked as a senior banker at Nedbank in South Africa where he was involved in real estate finance deal origination and structuring as well as on-going client service and relationship management. He was involved in structuring and funding a number of real estate transactions for both listed and non-listed clients, including a number of office and shopping centre developments.

Michael is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa having completed the actual professional qualification exams with the Institute of Actuaries, UK, in 2004. He is the past founding Chairman for the Banking Committee of the Actuarial Society of South Africa and the current Chairman of Banking Forum of the International Actuarial Association. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration Degree from Wits Business School, B Com (Hons.) in Actuarial Science Degree from the National University of Science & Technology, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Michael’s interests are in impact investing with a view of changing the quality of life of people in Africa.
